“It is such a joy to be involved with young people and mentor them and mold them for success as they matriculate into the working world. Although I am retired, I am STILL involved with the scholarship program and I think that speaks volumes about its impact. I am proud of our students and PCC for continuing this educational support and helping students across the country reach their dreams.”
SCHOOL NEWS
Q What does the PCC scholarship provide for Saint A Martin students?
Our PCC Scholars receive full nancial assistance for
tuition, school uniforms, books, and miscellaneous expenses related to extracurricular activities. Every year, we select two Saint Martin freshmen to become PCC Scholars who remain in the program until they graduate. There are currently a total of eight Saint Martin scholars. We also maintain relationships with students through quarterly meetings and other check-ins like bowling and/or celebrating at holiday parties. So far, we have provided 17 high school scholarships amounting to nearly $250K annually.
Q PCC also provides full-ride scholarships to the A University of Akron. Tell me about that.
After establishing the program at Saint Martin, we
decided to expand it and provide two Saint Martin graduating seniors with full scholarships to the University of Akron. This scholarship includes everything: tuition, room and board, books, and laptops. PCC annually spends $120K for tuition and another $30K for intern compensation. Students are encouraged to study and choose a major in a eld of their choice. For those interested, we also provide internship opportunities in our o ces or manufacturing facilities during school breaks.
QA What keeps you motivated to invest in our students? It is a way of giving back to students who may not otherwise have an opportunity to go to school. We
also feel that it is our way of helping to contribute to society by helping to provide prepared employees who become contributing citizens to the respective communities we support. Having been a recipient of the former Cleveland Scholarship program, I know what it’s like to have the desire to succeed and needing nancial support.
Q Any memorable stories or interactions with any of our A PCC scholars?
One of our rst scholars, Shanelle Canady-Mitchell, Class
of 2014, sticks out in my mind. When we interviewed her for the Akron Scholarship, she shared with us how she felt that another student she was competing against deserved the scholarship more than she did. We were so moved by

her sel ess act that we decided to award her a scholarship along with the student she was competing with. We were very pleased with how they both blossomed in their college years. Shanelle graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.723 cumulative GPA and had a 4.0 for her nal six semesters. She received her degree in early childhood education and also received a Reading Endorsement certi cate toward her master’s degree. She was such a pleasure to know and have as a scholarship recipient. She now works as a Kindergarten teacher at Citizens Academy Southeast.
