Message from the Principal
Adam Tri ro
I am so excited for the opportunity to serve as the new Principal at Saint Martin. It is truly the greatest honor of my career to work with and lead the work of our community into the future. Although this past year has been a whirlwind for schools across the nation, our students, teachers, sta , Corporate Work Study Partners, and community members have proven time and time again how they are willing to show up and take on new challenges.
We began the 2020-21 school year remotely in late August and were proud to see our students show signi cant improvements from
the spring when we rst started
remote learning. We noticed a 30% reduction in students who needed remediation, daily class
attendance increased, and student morale and engagement improved signi cantly. We learned just how crucial it was for our students to be in front of their teachers every
day. It not only gives students a sense of belonging and community but also gives them the instruction and skill development they need to be successful in their classes.
With this in mind, our second semester schedule allows us to welcome students back to campus for full in-person learning as local conditions permit. It also ensures smaller class sizes and allows us to implement additional health and safety best practices recommended by the county, state, CDC, and World Health Organization. Our schedule was also designed to allow us to rapidly move between live instruction, which is our goal, and remote instruction should conditions necessitate that. Already, our students are adjusting to their new schedules and have adapted
to our on-campus safety policies to ensure we can stay on campus as much as possible for the remainder of the school year.
In spite of challenging circumstances, we were not only able
to add new classes to our course catalog this school year,
but challenging college level courses. In addition to AP Biology, AP Computer Science, and AP US History, students are now able to take AP Government, AP Calculus, and Intro to Computer Science. We also brought back a Journalism class and Creative Writing elective.
I could not be more proud of the extreme resilience and adaptability our students and teachers have shown over the last year. We know these times have presented unique and individual challenges, but we have nothing but faith in our students’ abilities to be successful in the face of adversity.
Best regards,
Adam Tri ro Principal
