Message from the Co-Principals
John Fay
As a school whose mission is to ensure that students make it to and through college, it is important to remember our “why.” The very end of our mission statement reads, “preparing students...to become men and women of faith, purpose and service.” We truly believe that a college degree will set our students on a path of opportunities that can signi cantly impact their lives. However, we also believe that in order to more broadly impact our society all of our scholars must learn and practice leadership.
Leadership is one of the most valued characteristics in today’s professional world, but it looks very di erent in every context. It is our job to provide as many opportunities as we can for students to experience and demonstrate leadership. This past fall,
Saint Martin scholars took on leadership roles during admissions events, planned and facilitated our annual Revival, and attended leadership training provided by Facing History and Ourselves and John Carroll University. Saint Martin students are leading during the school day as well. Seniors and freshmen participate in the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters program, where
students develop relationships and receive guidance. Students in Mrs. Kirby’s chemistry class utilize a peer tutoring program to help each other nd success, and all of our sophomore students volunteer at nearby elementary schools, retirement homes, and activity centers for people with disabilities.

Saint Martin continues to innovate and develop
leadership programs rooted in students’ interests
and experiences. For example, Digi Divas, a program
developed by Ms. Brickman and John Carroll
University’s entrepreneurship program, teaches our young women how to excel in the eld of digital marketing. This fall, the group networked with female leaders from the greater Cleveland area to plan and market a women’s empowerment summit. Another innovation this year has been our implementation of the highly regarded Leader in Me curriculum in College and Career Readiness classes. Finally, our students had the opportunity to apply for our President’s Leadership Council in which they will represent the interests of their classmates and will be the face of Saint Martin for internal and external partners.
Our aim is to equip our students with the opportunities to develop leadership skills in their early teenage years so that they may not only become leaders in our school community but in their work environments and college campuses beyond Saint Martin.
Sincerely,
John Fay & Ryan Hurley Co-Principals
