Message from the President and Board Chair
Chaz Napoli
We are so excited to announce that Phase II of our new school building is in sight! With plans to put a shovel in the ground this spring, followed by 12-15 months of construction, our school community will be united under one roof in September 2021. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this dream a reality so quickly!
Phase II will provide us with several new opportunities to expand our services and continue to grow the ways we serve our students and families. With the opening of a brand new Center for Wellness, we can enhance our wraparound and wellness services in order to holistically serve our students and families by providing high-quality care in a one-stop hub. Phase II will also drive our passion for advancing student leadership, which is our core mission over the next few years. With upperclassmen and underclassmen under one roof, our goal is for students to work together to help lead the school. Finally, we will be able to support faculty and sta in creating a twenty- rst-century education around project-based and collaborative learning while streamlining our work across departments.
Dominic Perry
Although the layout of Phase II will be similar to Phase I, there are several lessons learned from inhabiting the new building that have informed improvements to the design. In addition to setting up project-based learning spaces, Phase II will include individual learning areas that are similar to those in an undergraduate environment. Every classroom will have easy access to common areas through overhead doors. We are excited about the addition of a chapel as well as an outdoor learning area that will allow for quiet study and the opportunity to bring more green space into our city neighborhood.
Overall, our building design echoes our mission and the work we strive to do
every day. We are a work-study and college preparatory school, and the design of
the classrooms and learning commons are meant to replicate the experience of professional and undergraduate life. Our students do not have to wait until they get to college and the professional world to experience what an open, inclusive, team-based environment is like, and we believe that puts our students ahead of their peers.
Although Phase II will complete the new building and reunite our community under one roof for the rst time since the early years of the school, our dream campus will not be complete without the addition of an athletic center. As we work to address the ever-changing physical and programmatic needs of our students and school community, we are con dent that together we will continue to have a lasting impact on urban education in Cleveland.
Best Regards,
Charles (Chaz) Napoli Dominic Perry President, Saint Martin de Porres High School Board Chair
