Saint Martin de Porres High School is seeking a full-time Vice President of Human Resources to be part of an innovative college-prep and career readiness high school experience.
OUR ORGANIZATION
Saint Martin de Porres High School is part of the Cristo Rey Network of Catholic schools designed exclusively for students of modest means. Our competitive edge is our Corporate Work study program, which allows students to gain real world work experience while receiving a college preparatory education. Eighty percent of our students will be the first in their extended families to go to college. Our rigorous curriculum, which includes students working in a corporate environment, was designed specifically for our school by a committee of prestigious educational leaders.
Saint Martin was founded in 2004, we are chartered by the state of Ohio and accredited through the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association. Our mission of College and Career Readiness is centered around five pillars: Work, Study, Serve, Lead, and Pray.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the President, the Vice President of Human Resources oversees the employee life-cycle and is integral to the success of Saint Martin. With a combination of strategic and administrative responsibilities, this position is the primary contact for employee inquiries. This individual is also responsible for recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, DEIB oversight and performance management. He or she will recommend and implement human resource management programs, policies, and practices while maintaining necessary compliance. The ideal candidate will possess a high-level of tact, a calm disposition, strong organizational and problem-solving skills and be an effective communicator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities required of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Serve as a member of senior leadership team, supporting the growth and stability of the community and its mission.
- Provide trusted advice, support and assistance by interpreting policies and procedures and by counseling school leaders, staff and faculty on personnel matters and procedures.
- Advise the president on a variety of employment topics and concerns for the purpose of ensuring they are current on relevant concerns.
- Collaborate with school leaders to determine recruitment needs, staffing objectives and talent management.
- Develop and execute best practices for hiring and talent management including attracting and retaining members of underrepresented groups.
- Design processes to improve employee retention including professional development.
- Recommend improvements to HR policies, benefits and training programs, etc.
- Administer the compensation program; monitor the performance evaluation program and revise as necessary.
- Work with broker to administer employee benefits programs.
- Maintain Human Resource Information System records and compile reports and audits as needed including reporting metrics to the Board of Directors and the Cleveland Diocese.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations, including the Ohio Department of Education and the Cleveland Diocese.
- Determines the HR training needs throughout the school; develop and plan training programs to meet the established needs; coordinate the implementation of both on-going and special interest training programs, including DEI training.
- Lead and champion the school’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts.
- Hold staff and organization accountable to employing an equity and inclusion lens in our work and professional relationships. Be available for consultation and answer questions raised by staff related to race equity.
- Collaborate with VP of Finance to annually evaluate compensation and benefits plans.
- Administer FMLA, unemployment, workers compensation, and all other benefit related programs governed by employment/labor laws.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business or Public Administration preferred.
- HR Credentials (i.e. PHR/SHRM-CP), preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a HR role including employment, compensation, benefits and employee relations.
- 2+ years of leadership experience in the educational sector or an equivalent amount of personnel experience in the private sector.
- Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision and a high respect for confidential information.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.

- In-depth knowledge of HR functions (pay & benefits, recruitment, training & development, compliance, etc.)
- Comfortable in a setting requiring flexibility and the ability to assume and assist in multiple roles.

- Salary starting at $80,000-$85,000, commensurate with experience.
