Community Service Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Service Specialist is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating and executing all campus ministry-sponsored community service opportunities and engagement of our external community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities required of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Create a schedule of regular, ongoing service opportunities for students.

  • Create opportunities for students to participate in longer-term service projects with a strong emphasis on relationship-building.

  • Coordinate opportunities for students and adults to reflect on their experiences of service and solidarity.

  • Track and maintain a record of service hours completed by students.

  • Support the development of student leadership and shared power in all aspects of community service planning and execution (e.g. working with Student Leadership Council Ministry representatives)

  • Coordinate programming and manage volunteer teams for other community service activities such as the monthly food bank and community garden.

  • Serve as the lead adult for planning and chaperoning of the Service Immersion Trips offered during Spring Break week and/or in June following the end of each school year.

  • Develop and manage collaborative relationships with various neighborhood and community partners both within and outside of the Catholic faith community.

  • Assist with other Campus Ministry programming:

    • Retreats offered throughout each year for students in grade-level and mixed grade-level groupings, this includes some overnights and weekends.

    • School-wide Liturgies (Masses and Prayer Services) on Feast Days and milestone events such as Mass of the Holy Spirit, Junior Ring Ceremony, Baccalaureate, Liturgy of Thanksgiving, etc.

    • Extra-Curricular Activities (as able/needed) such as Gospel Choir, Praise Dance, Student Advocates for Social Justice, Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice etc.

  • Assist with various campus ministry administrative tasks including:

  • Ensure timely communication with the school community about upcoming Campus Ministry events (weekly parent newsletter, daily school announcements, etc.).

  • Communicate with contact persons at partner organizations (including St. Vitus Parish).

  • Schedule transportation to and from off-campus events with the assistance of the Transportation Coordinator.

  • Reserve venues for off-campus events.

  • Collect and organize student and adult records (service hours, emergency medical forms, etc.).

  • Attend regular Campus Ministry team meetings and one-on-one meetings with the Vice President of Mission.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, education, social work, or another related field is preferred.

  • Ability to become an Ohio Certified Van Driver is required. This can be obtained upon hire.

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in an academic or non-profit environment preferably.

  • 3+ years of experience with a faith-based organization.

  • 3+ years of experience in community building, engagement, or service to the community.

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Office Suite.

  • Understands the requirement to talk, listen and actively intervene with students.

  • Friendly, willing to extend oneself to others, collaborative with a strong community building focus and acts with a sense of authenticity.

  • Detail oriented, able to multi-task and remain flexible to the changing needs of the school and our many constituencies.

  • Organized, with very effective time management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work with school and professional technology (use of academic software, Google Suite, PowerSchool, GoGuardian, Microsoft Suite).

  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of service excellence to all customers and stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple, complex priorities with demanding time frames.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain and protect all confidential materials and information.
