Saint Martin de Porres High School is seeking a full-time Vice President of Finance to be part of an innovative college-prep and career readiness high school experience.
OUR ORGANIZATION
Saint Martin de Porres High School is part of the Cristo Rey Network of Catholic schools designed exclusively for students of modest means. Our competitive edge is our Corporate Work study program, which allows students to gain real world work experience while receiving a college preparatory education. Eighty percent of our students will be the first in their extended families to go to college. Our rigorous curriculum, which includes students working in a corporate environment, was designed specifically for our school by a committee of prestigious educational leaders.
Saint Martin was founded in 2004, we are chartered by the state of Ohio and accredited through the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association. Our mission of College and Career Readiness is centered around five pillars: Work, Study, Serve, Lead, and Pray.
POSITION SUMMARY
As a hands-on and participative leader the Vice President of Finance oversees an internal team with responsibility for the associated day-to-day operations of the following areas: finance, facilities, food service, and technology.
The Vice President of Finance is a self-directed collaborative leader, works with little supervision or instruction, and embraces and drives continuous operational improvement based on data analysis. This individual must hold themselves to the highest standard of integrity motivated by the mission of the school - providing a pathway to college and career for students from diverse and economically challenged backgrounds.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This is a general representation of the key duties and responsibilities required of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Finance
- Provide leadership for the financial operations of the school through proactive engagement with the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees and the school’s Leadership Team.
- Support the President and Board of Trustees in the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
- Prepare and manage the annual operating and capital budgets as well as develop and implement long range plans.
- Prepare financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.
- Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses. Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, Cristo Rey Network, Diocesan and federal requirements.
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
- Assist in obtaining the necessary licenses and insurance.
- With an eye on equity, optimize all external spend by identifying and negotiating with key suppliers, ensuring non-profit pricing and tax exemption status. Work with all internal stakeholders and suppliers to continuously seek cost reduction opportunities, including leveraging the Cristo Rey Network.
- Review and approve all significant contracts, including technology management, maintenance, food service and transportation.
- Comply with all Board-imposed requirements (multiple quotes, non-conflict of interest sourcing, etc.)
- Coordinate audits including the annual financial audit, and audits required by government entities, (i.e., NSLP, State of Ohio-worker’s compensation, State of Ohio-ODE, etc.)
- Collaborate with Human Resources to develop compensation and benefits plans, performance evaluations, training and recruiting.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Facilities
- Assist the Facilities Director with the preparation of annual capital and maintenance budgets.
- Participate in and actively manage the cost of major capital and significant maintenance projects.
Food Service
- Ensure Food program and Food Service Management Company meets all State and Federal requirements (including serving and reporting).
- Submit monthly claims for reimbursement from the State, and submit other reports as required by NSLP. Coordinate the bid process.
- Coordinate with Food Service Management Company and other departments to determine that catering and event needs are met.
Technology
- Manage relationship with Technology management company.
- Ensure all students, faculty, and staff have the tools and technology required to enable learning and job performance.
- Stay abreast of technology changes and leading edge technology and determine applicability and affordability for the school.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; advanced degree or CPA preferred
- 10+ years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position.
- Successful track record in setting priorities, keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. (Proficiency in Word and Excel is a must)
- Understanding of federal and state financial regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.

- Experience and success in working in a school environment.
- Comfortable in a setting requiring flexibility and the ability to assume and assist in multiple roles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Very strong interpersonal skills. Detail oriented and data-driven.
- Organized with very effective time management skills.
- Capable of managing several initiatives simultaneously while working in fast paced environment.
- Proactive approach to tasks and projects.
- Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with various audiences including Board of Trustees, students and colleagues.
- Strong team player, able to collaborate and work closely with the Business Office team members and faculty and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of service excellence to all customers and stakeholders.

- $85,000-$90,000; or commensurate with experience.
