Saint Martin de Porres High School in Cleveland honored one of its most distinguished alumni, Enrique Freeman, Indiana Pacers Forward and 2018 graduate, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Enrique was the first alumnus to have his jersey honored for Saint Martin Athletics.
After graduating from Saint Martin de Porres, Freeman attended the University of Akron on a full-ride academic scholarship and continued his basketball career as a walk-on for the Zips. His collegiate achievements earned him national recognition, including four consecutive All-MAC Defensive Team honors, two First-Team All-MAC selections, two MAC Tournament MVP awards, and being named the 2022 MAC Defensive Player of the Year.
His success at Akron led to his selection as the 50th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. Freeman’s career has been marked by standout performances, tracing his path from Saint Martin to the global stage of the NBA.
The dedication ceremony served as a tribute to Freeman’s legacy, acknowledging his Saint Martin jersey number and accomplishments as an athlete, as well as his ongoing impact as a mentor and community leader. Known for his leadership, perseverance, and commitment to excellence, Enrique continued to inspire others as a role model, both in athletics and as a community advocate.
“We weren’t at all surprised by Enrique’s success—he’s the kind of student who leaves a lasting impression, one you never forget,” said Ryan Schneider, Saint Martin Principal and Head Basketball Coach.
Enrique Freeman’s continued success, both as a player and as a leader off the court, set the standard for future generations of Saint Martin de Porres students. The dedication of his jersey number was a well-deserved recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the school and the community.
