Saint Martin Receives $2.4 Million Gift from The Howley Foundation

Posted April 17, 2023 in Press Releases

Saint Martin de Porres High School is excited to announce a $2.4 million commitment from The Howley Foundation in support of the Howley Scholars Program. Established in 2004, The Howley Scholarship Program provides scholarships to freshmen who demonstrate great academic promise, excellence in their Corporate Work Study job, strong character, and financial need. Scholarships are renewable each year provided students maintain a 3.0+ GPA, involvement in extracurricular activities, and remain in good standing with the Office of Student Success.

“To honor the many, many years of supporting our scholars with this long-term commitment means the world to our students, particularly since we are not a tuition based program and we rely almost exclusively on support from the community to fund the school,” said Chaz Napoli, President of Saint Martin de Porres HS. “What is so incredible about our relationship with The Howley Foundation is their twenty year support of so many areas of need & opportunity; such as, corporate work study jobs teams at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Beachland Ballroom, college gap funding scholarships for Saint Martin alumni, major capital funding for our new state-of-the-art campus, and many other initiatives at the school.”

In addition, The Howley Foundation will be joining many individuals and corporations in supporting our newly formed Richard F. Clark Scholars program in honor of our late founding President, Richard F. Clark. Scholars selected for the program must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to their fellow students, while also embodying Rich’s dedication to faith and service. Chaz Napoli, shares, “We are excited about The Howley Foundation’s commitment to honor Rich’s legacy by supporting our 4th named scholarship program. The outpouring of support to establish this scholarship in Rich’s memory showcases the impact that Rich had on education in the city of Cleveland and how he continues to inspire others through Saint Martin’s mission.” Nick Howley adds, “We believe in the power of education to break the cycle of poverty in families and are happy to partner with Saint Martin in their important work.”

About The Howley Foundation

Nick and Lorie Howley founded The Howley Foundation in 2001, with the intent of helping all students, regardless of economic means, receive the best education possible. The Howleys firmly believe that education is one of the most important catalysts to promote positive change in individuals and society as a whole.

Starting with one student scholarship in a local Cleveland Catholic high school, they have grown the foundation and the Howley Scholars Program to provide meaningful tuition assistance to more than 900 scholarship students in two major cities (Cleveland and Philadelphia) and college students around the United States.

Historically, tuition assistance by The Howley Foundation was provided primarily for secondary education. However, in recent years, it has expanded to include scholarship support and selected program assistance at three major levels of education.
