In front of a very lively packed house on May 15, 18 members of the Class of 2018 made their college choices in front of classmates, teachers, family, staff, and members of the community in Saint Martin de Porres' 11th annual Academic Signing Day. The event was hosted by local television personalities Tracy Carloss from WEWS and Harry Boomer of WOIO and WUAB. All of the participating students maintained a 3.5 cumulative Grade Point Average or above throughout their 4 years at Saint Martin.
Students were accompanied by representatives from the colleges as they signed their certificate acknowledging where they have chosen to continue their education. Some of those institutions include Georgetown, Ursuline, John Carroll, Howard University, The Ohio State University, and several others.
Saint Martin de Porres, which boasts a 100% acceptance rate into college since it opened its doors in 2004, is proud to announce that these 18 students collectively have earned over $3.8 million in scholarships toward their respective college educations.
The day was captured by WOIO's Damon Maloney beginning at 4:30 am on Wake Up Cleveland. Mr. Maloney went live several times from our school commons, interviewing Presdient Clark, our students, and others. Mr. Boomer then put the day together going live at noon on WOIO, and filing a story for the later newscasts. Mrs. Carloss also wrapped up the day for viewers of Newschannel 5.
Congratulations to all of our seniors as they embark on the next chapter of their lives!
