On Wednesday, the Cleveland Cavaliers honored one of Saint Martin's incredible teachers, Brittany Kirby, as the January winner of their Head of the Class educator. The Cavs contingent, which included Moondog, Q emcee Ahmaad Crump, and a host of others, surprised Mrs. Kirby while she was teaching her Chemistry class. She was brought to tears as she was presented a large ticket congratulating her on this incredible honor. "This is amazing, what an awesome surprise," Kirby said. "What a great way to start second semester!"
Mrs. Kirby was selected because of her commitment to her student's success, her community involvement, and all she does outside of the classroom. Her classes are thought to be some of the most innovative in our region, including projects such as DNA analysis, water sampling, and computer coding. The students have a great deal of fun while learning!
She also finds time to teach a group of 8th graders in Saint Martin's Early High School program to better prepare them for high school success. And when the school day ends, Mrs. Kirby's does not. The fifth-year Saint Martin teacher spends endless hours after school every day making sure all students receive the help they need. She also participates in student success as one of the cross country coaches.
In being honored, the Cavs presented Mrs. Kirby with 4 tickets to the January 18 game against the Orlando Magic where she will be recognized in front of a sell out crowd on the Q floor during the game. The organization will also donate $500 toward enhancing her classroom in any way she wants.
It was an incredible morning for a teacher who is so loved and respected by her students.
