Providing students of modest economic means with a college preparatory education aimed at helping young men and women develop the habits of mind and spirit that will enable them to be successful in college, in their careers, and in life.

Providing meaningful opportunities for professionals to interact with and mentor students while making a difference in their lives. Over 100 Cleveland-area businesses, firms, and non-profits have partnered with Saint Martin.

Saint Martin invites students into our school community who are committed to academic, spiritual, social, emotional, and physical growth. During the admissions process, Saint Martin reviews academic, disciplinary, and attendance records, as well as teacher recommendations.

While we are serious about preparing students for college and career success, we also believe that school should be fun! Caring for the whole student, we believe that involvement in extracurriculars is essential to continuing to form talented, well-rounded, and interesting individuals.

CWS Professional Development Program

Posted September 11, 2025 in Announcements

At Saint Martin, our mission is to ensure that every student has the opportunity to grow as both a scholar and a professional. They develop the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to succeed in the classroom today and thrive in the workplace tomorrow.

As you know, students traditionally begin their freshman year with a job placement through our Corporate Work Study Program. This year, we are experiencing an unusual situation in which not every student has been placed right away. For those students without an immediate placement, we have created a Professional Development Program designed with great intention and care. This is a temporary placement until job opportunities become available.

During Professional Development, students:

  • Model a professional workday schedule to build consistency and readiness. Each Monday is structured from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the day split between professional development and community service. Students rotate between these two experiences, giving them the opportunity to build workplace skills while also serving others. Students are expected to be in uniform and ready to demonstrate professionalism throughout the day.

  • Engage in meaningful volunteer service that connects them to the community and strengthens a spirit of purpose. We are modeling the Jesuit charism of being “men and women” for others. We are introducing students to non-profit corporate stewardship by connecting them to United Cerebral Palsy, The Greater Cleveland Foodbank, and other service opportunities.

  • Students develop essential workplace skills such as communication, time management, resilience, problem-solving, and responsibility. These skills are critical to thriving once they begin their jobs.

To support this growth, we partner each week with the Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) to engage students in meaningful experiences that build both character and leadership. Grounded in evidence-based principles from Positive Psychology, TMF combines presentations, hands-on activities, and group discussions to help students develop strong character, leadership skills, and a resilient mindset for success.

We want to assure you that the Professional Development Program is not a replacement for a job, but rather a stepping stone. The CWS team is actively pursuing new placements, and as soon as an opportunity becomes available, your student will transition into their role at a partner organization.

We deeply value your partnership and trust. Thank you for supporting your child as they participate fully in this unique experience. We are confident the Professional Development Program will give them a strong foundation to succeed when their job placement begins.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Together, we are guiding our students toward a future of purpose and possibility.
