The Journey of a Young Healthcare Professional

Tiffany Williamson graduated from Saint Martin in 2023. When asked about her favorite part of Saint Martin, Tiffany didn’t hesitate: “I truly loved the people there—they cared about me beyond my academics.” She fondly recalled numerous staff members who went out of their way to support her when she needed it, making a lasting impact on her experience. At Saint Martin, Tiffany was heavily involved in Campus Ministry as well as the Lady Lions Softball Team. She was a Student Associate at MetroHealth and University Hospitals where she worked in the medical records department and was a sterile processing intern. Because of her Corporate Work Study job, Tiffany discovered that she wanted to go into healthcare. Her Corporate Work Study experience in a hospital setting coupled with Saint Martin’s support allowed her to receive her STNA certification and set her on a path to success.

After graduating from Saint Martin, Tiffany felt well-prepared for college. “Because of the curriculum at Saint Martin, the transition into college wasn’t very difficult,” she explained, adding that her high school experience also taught her how to stay on task. Tiffany enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, where she quickly embraced new opportunities. She quickly emerged herself in the Transition’s Program, dedicated to incoming African American students, as well as a Leadership 2.0 Scholarship, which allowed minority students to get a head start by taking summer classes. Maintaining her scholarship required meeting specific academic standards—a challenge she met successfully, earning her a place in the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing.

Now a sophomore majoring in nursing, Tiffany remains deeply involved on campus. She serves as a Habari Gani Student Ambassador for the African American Resource Center, where she also holds the role of Community Service Chair, organizing service events and building connections with outside organizations to provide additional resources for students. She is also an active member of AMBITION, a group dedicated to supporting nursing students of diverse racial backgrounds by creating a safe space and amplifying their voices.

As Tiffany reaches the halfway point of her college journey, she is eager to expand her nursing knowledge through hands-on clinical experience. She looks forward to applying what she has learned in the classroom to real-life scenarios, understanding that the classroom experience differs significantly from practical, hands-on scenarios. Tiffany has a clear vision for her future, and after earning her degree from the University of Cincinnati, she plans to continue her education in nursing and pursue a career as a Labor and Delivery Nurse. Her advice to current Saint Martin students and alumni is to stay focused and keep their priorities in check. “Saint Martin is very adamant about making sure students have a plan upon graduation,” she says, a support system that she found incredibly helpful in shaping her own path.
