Alumni Spotlight: Marshall Freeman '13

Connections, confidence and guidance...three things Marshall Freeman ‘13 shares he received during his time at Saint Martin. Thanks to the academic environment, Corporate Work Study Program, and family atmosphere, Marshall shares his readiness for taking on both a college and career workload which shaped where he is today.

After high school, Marshall attended Marquette University and received his Bachelor’s in Criminology and Law Studies in 2017. He began working at the Boys and Girls Club where he tutored students and aided them in the college search process. Ultimately, he decided to leave the Cleveland area and move to Charlotte, North Carolina to be closer to his family.

Since moving to North Carolina, Marshall has worked as a Customer Service Specialist at Amwins Group Insurance. At Amwins, his job is to bridge the gap between underwriters and insurance providers while also supplying insurance for specialty products. He has a number of responsibilities on a day-to-day basis, such as training employees, conversing with underwriters and processing accounts.

During his time at Saint Martin, Marshall worked for several Corporate Work Study Program companies including Swagelok, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, and Neundorfer. At these jobs, he learned how to train others, received more experience with presenting, and became comfortable with his abilities. He shares, “I received an incredible experience at a young age that others never received. I have years of experience in talking to co-workers and being in different workplaces which gave me confidence to take on anything a corporate job requires.” He specifically remembers his CWSP supervisors and the positive impact they left on him.

In addition, Marshall noted how strong the relationships are within the Saint Martin family. While in college, he was able to reach back out to his former teachers if he was struggling with a subject, and they were more than willing to assist him. Furthermore, the alumni advising staff still reach out to him to check in on his career plans and how to achieve his goals. He even notes the strength of the Cristo Rey Network after meeting several Cristo Rey alumni in Charlotte and connecting over their similar experiences across the country.

If Marshall could thank Saint Martin for one thing he said it would be the ability to communicate in various settings. “I believe Saint Martin was able to put us all in different spaces and different areas where we were challenged and were able to grow and communicate in new ways.” He is proud of where he has come from and looks forward to his future.
