Saint Martin de Porres High School is seeking an experienced Manager of Foundation Relations to be part of an innovative urban college-prep high school experience.
Saint Martin de Porres High School is a Catholic college-preparatory program designed exclusively for students of modest means. Eighty percent of our students will be the first in their extended families to go to college. Our rigorous curriculum, which includes students working in a corporate environment, was designed specifically for our school by a committee of prestigious educational leaders. Saint Martin was founded in 2004 and is chartered by the state of Ohio and accredited through the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association. Our mission is to transform urban Cleveland one student at a time and we are committed to the values of work, study, service, leadership and prayer. We are a part of the Cristo Rey Network of schools founded in 2001.
The Manager of Foundation Relations will manage all aspects of Saint Martin’s foundation and corporate grant fundraising. As a key member of the Advancement team, he or she is responsible for securing funding to realize the mission and vision of the School. Manager of Foundation Relations will work with leadership, faculty, and staff to develop and produce proposals and reports to ensure timely cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of grants. Responsible for effectively conveying the school’s mission, goals, and accomplishments in order to win grant funding approval. This individual is also responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with Foundation representatives and compiling reports to demonstrate our results and explain the impact of our school in the City of Cleveland and Greater Cleveland community. The Manager is responsible for maintaining the grant prospect pipeline, annual grant plan and timeline, grant fundraising progress reports, and goals.
• Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage 50 – 60 grant proposals per year for foundation and corporate support.
• Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations, identifying approximately 10 new potential funding partners per year.
• Work with multiple disciplines (i.e., Advancement, Faculty and Academic Administration, Corporate Work Study Program, Student Life, Counseling/Wraparound Services, College Counseling, and Finance staff) to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
• Understand budgets and create requisite budget documents, with finance staff input, in prescribed formats provided by funders.
• Edit copy for adherence to conventional rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling, including educational and social justice terminology.
• Utilize substantive editing for clarity, organization, and internal consistency. Employ critical assessment of every component of the document.
• Review the organization of the text, the logic of the arguments, and the communicative effectiveness of the entire document.
• Responsible for institutional writing including speeches, award nominations, newsletter articles, etc.
• Comply with all grant reporting requirements as outlined by foundation/corporate donors.
• Gain and maintain understanding of institutional history and current programs and initiatives.
• Maintain documents and records, including grant tracking and reporting, in Raiser’s Edge database, google docs, and physical files.
• Effectively steward relationships with corporate and foundation donors, ensuring they receive regular written updates (e.g., newsletters) and event invitations, etc.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or commensurate writing experience.
EXPERIENCE AND COMMITMENT:
• Robust demonstration of success in obtaining grants from foundations, corporations or other philanthropic entities across 2-3 organizations and industries or service sectors.
• Five to seven years of experience in a non-profit organization, preferably in a mission-oriented school or faith-based entity.
• Experience in using data and statistics to tell a story, to support proposals and to construct SMART goals (i.e., Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound).
• Ability to describe the impact that our programs have on those we serve in new and refreshed approaches, in order to avoid redundancy and demonstrate renewed fund development efforts on an annual basis.
• Strong business acumen, solid writing experience, and a passion for mission-based work.
• Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, to be resourceful and to be at ease with ambiguity and rapid change. Able to exercise judgement and to be adept at identifying creative solutions to obstacles.

- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with the realities, nuances, and impacts of educational inequity, racial inequity, poverty, restorative justice, the Greater Cleveland education sector (public and private) and a willingness and desire to learn and grow in one’s understanding and knowledge.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of philanthropy, particularly grant cycles, application processes and protocols, and local philanthropic foundations.
- Highly donor focused and familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising/donor database.
- Understands and completely embraces the Saint Martin de Porres High School mission and the Cristo Rey Network's Ten Standards for Mission Effectiveness.
- Believes that all learning should be set in meaningful context and related to real world experiences.
- Utilizes pedagogical approaches that include but are not limited to Habits of the mind, Socratic questioning, adult and peer coaching, adult and peer presentations, problem-based learning, constructionist approach, inquiry methods, appreciative inquiry methods, and other forms of active learning.
- Person of faith but not necessarily Catholic.
- Appreciates that the school is driven by its Catholicity which focuses on the highest level of ethical, moral and social behavior of its students, staff and volunteers.
