Decent education should not have to be so expensive, but it is. Saint Martin de Porres High School is a blessing.

I'm a Sister of the Humility of Mary, a native of Lakewood, Ohio, and graduate of Magnificat High School, St. John College of Cleveland, and John Carroll University. I have about twenty years of teaching experience and twenty years of experience in pastoral ministry with Hispanic Catholics in both El Salvador and the United States. I've studied Spanish language and culture in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. I've also travelled to Costa Rica, in Central America and to Spain, and other countries in Europe.
Teaching Spanish as a foreign language at St. Martin de Porres High School, is a ministry close to my heart because I'm acutely aware of the need our students have to learn a foreign language in order to excel in the global economy of this twenty-first century. The influx of Hispanic/Latino immigrants to our country is somewhat changing the culture of the nation, and our students stand to be enriched by the contributions of the new immigrants, while at the same time, enriching and serving their needs. As our students graduate from college, and enter world of business, their Spanish language will put them in higher demand simply because they will be able to communicate with a greater customer base.
It is my hope that some of our students will enter into church ministry, social work, health care and education, where they will be able to provide direct service to the poor who only speak Spanish. Perhaps a few will go to Spanish speaking countries to serve those who need them.
