Facts and Figures

1. Saint Martin de Porres High School is part of the Cristo Rey Network of schools, and is dedicated to transforming urban Cleveland one student at a time through an innovative college preparatory curriculum rooted in the development of habits of mind and spirit, a unique partnership with the business community reflected in our Corporate Work Study Program and a caring, Catholic community.

2. Saint Martin de Porres High School was founded in 2003 and opened our doors to 105 Freshmen in 2004 in the former Saint Vitus elementary school.

3. Our founding supporters: The Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus, The Sisters of the Humility of Mary, The Cassin Educational Initiative Foundation, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

4. We are a safe, affordable and effective educational alternative on the near east side of Cleveland.

5. Corporate Work Study: In our first year we had, 23 partners who provided 25 jobs. Eighty-six percent (86%) of the original partners continue to participate in the Corporate Work Study Program providing a way for students to pay 70% of their cost of high school education.

6. We are part of a national network called the Cristo Rey Network, which was founded in 1996 in Chicago. To date, there are 19 schools in the Cristo Rey Network; Baltimore, MD; Birmingham, AL; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Denver, CO; East Harlem, NY; Indianapolis, IN; Kansas City, MO; Lawrence, MA; Minneapolis, MN; Newark, NJ; North Cambridge, MA; Omaha, NE; Portland, OR; Sacramento, CA; Tucson, AZ; Washington, DC; Watts, CA; and Waukegan, Illinois. Three additional schools are scheduled to open in the fall of 2008.

7. 98% Graduation rate in the Cristo Rey Network and 99% go to college.

8. In our first three years, Saint Martin de Porres High School students have shown significant results in test scores, specifically in the Ohio Graduation Test.

9. In addition to a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, Saint Martin de Porres High School offers 23 extra-curricular activities including varsity athletics for males and females, theatre troupe, engineering club and variety of others.

10. We are dedicated to providing young men and women with an excellent, technology-driven, college-preparatory education that is relevant and applicable to the world around them. Our wireless environment includes access to laptops, palm pilots and smart boards in every class room. We are truly a cutting-edge model for urban education.

11. Our first graduation will be held June 7, 2008. Of our 50 seniors, 92% have been accepted to one or more colleges or universities.
